Nevada Unemployment Rate Goes Unchanged from October; State’s Labor Force Continues to Grow

The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation released their October economic report, and that showed that the state’s unemployment rate went unchanged from September to October, and remained at 5.4 percent. During the month, however, the labor force grew by another 5,500, making October the 10th straight month that there’s been labor force growth.

Much of this growth was caused by increases in employment at employers, as opposed to a surge of unemployed people. Even as the labor force grew by more than 5,000, the number of unemployed individuals only grew by 600. The labor force participation rate is now 62.1 percent, up 0.5 percent from this time last year.

Additionally, this growth is being driven by the strong recovery in the Leisure and Hospitality industry, which added another 1,600 jobs. The Government and Other Services sectors also helped drive growth, adding 1,100 and 2,500 jobs, respectively.
